Great Gift Ideas for Grandparents
Grandparent Gift Ideas
Like millions of other grandparents I was born between 1946-1955. We are baby boomer grandparents. I believe that makes us a new kind of grandparent, one that has broken out of the mold of the older idea of 'grannie' or 'pops'.
This article has a whole lot of ideas for the sorts of gifts I think most of us would like to receive, (from an iPhone to a ride in a Hot Air Balloon), if you force us to accept that it's really very nice to receive a gift from a child.
You could always give me a hand painted (blown) egg shell or driftwood though - any day! In fact if you, dearest grandchild have no money, then you may stop reading here and get going with those paints.
However, If you really want to go for a super gift for us then, okay. Let's see. How much have you got to spend?!!
Best Gift Idea - The iPhone
An iPhone makes a good gift for grandparents. The picture resolution is very clear. It's a tablet, smaller than the page of a lette and the wi fi model only weighs 1.44 lbs. Its' slim and a pleasure to handle and touch.
We can open it up immediately and look at the world - interact with it. It's like a phone, but because it's visual it makes it so much stronger. There are no cords or flexes. The battery last a very long time and easily rechargeable.
There is no keyboard, we just tap the screen! We can sit anywhere in their house and use it.
There is nothing technologically threatening about the iPhone, but to make a gift of it, you, dear grandchild should show your love and gently, patiently take us grandparents through the few simple things we need to learn to use it. Show us how to play a game with you. THIS will be your great gift to us. We will pick it up very quickly and be surprised that we can, if you teach us.
Vinyl to CD Player
Cool Gifts for Grandparents
State of the art record (vinyl) players are all the rage. We can play all our old music whilst transferring it to CD. (I've included a link about converting from vinyl to CD below, by a fellow Hub writer called wilderness.)
It'll turn all our Jimmy Hendrix, Cream and The Doors LP's into MP3's we can listen to digitally on our lap tops, (Mac and PC compatible).
It will play the records on the home stereo without needing an amplifier. It has a plug and play Usb computer connection so, as the ad says, "it turns your old music into portable flexible, digital MP3's that you can enjoy at home or on your travels".
If listening to concerts is your Grandparent's idea of heaven then a set of super headphones will send them to that musical heaven.
Great Gift Idea for Grandparents Who Have Everything
An Air Printer. The product description of the little printer here on the right is that it is designed for simplicity. "It cane be shared with everyone in your home, offering convenient printing from smartphones, tablets and more. It supports AppleAirPrint and Google Cloud Print and has slots for PC-free printing. It scans and archives important documents and also quickly produces color copies and can perfect the image with enhancements to get perfect prints".
The thing that will make this gift precious is that you would go through the explanations of how the air printer works with us Grandparents, checking every step of the way that we all understand how to install it and how to use it, easily. You could practice printing from our iPads. We could take photographs of each other together, download them and print them up, on the spot. It's a gift that we can personalize, so that we feel connected to you every time we use it!
Gifts for Grandmother
I really don't need anything anymore, but these are a few things I've always dreamed of having.
An Electric Carving Knife
I'm tired of asking my husband to sharpen the one we have and I love finely sliced roasts (who doesn't?)
A Brita Fill New Water Filter Bottle
I know all those bottles of mineral water aren't good for the environment and one of the most wonderful thing I can have through the day is a glass of cool water.
Trip in a Hot Air Balloon.
I'd like a whole day trip in a hot air balloon. For this you, dear grandchild, would have to go online in your part of the world and see where these trips go from.
Would someone book me a pedicure please? (Keep my feet on the ground.)
Gifts for Grandfather
How about a funky standard lamp for late night reading with a LED light source? The light on the right is a lot like the Arco Floor Flos lamp that was designed by Achille Castiglion 1962 - and will bring back a lot of memories of earlier days.
It's a gift that shows a lot of thought and sense of style and will please him no end.
That has to be good for him.
He might like a pedicure too. He's been squashing those feet into shoes for years now.
This is what gifts for grandparents are really all about. Showing us that you care and are giving us what you know will give us pleasure. And fun! (Though a painted piece of bark would really be just as beautiful, if not more so.)
Grandparent's Bucket List
A note aside to grandchildren - shh without anyone hearing that anyone has said this to you.
Why don't you ask your grandparents to write a bucket list of ALL the things that they dream of having, of all the gifts they'd like to really have - if they could!
You could make the page up with nice drawings or photos and call is BUCKET LIST.
- Games on the iPad for Older People
Playing games on the The New iPad is a fun way for the elderly to constantly be in touch and connect with family and friends. Just two fingers tapping on a light portable screen is all it takes, it's so easy! Through playing games with apps like 'Wor
